Donna Hagen Spencer McCalister Donna Hagen Spencer McCalister was received by the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 7, 2006, at her home in Sacramento, California, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born September 16, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Louis Oscar Hagen and Tryphene Layton Hagen. She was 86. Donna grew up in Santa Paula and graduated from Ventura Junior College. She was the Society Editor of the Santa Paula Chronicle.Donna met and married Clyde Eugene Spencer, Jr. of Piru in 1941. They were stationed in Pensacola, Florida, where Clyde was a flight instructor for the US Navy during WWII. They moved to the Sacramento area where Clyde finished his education at UC Davis. Their son Brian Eugene was born in Woodland. They lived in the San Joaquin Valley where their son Jan Louis was born. They lived in Ceres from 1952 to 1966 where Donna taught elementary school after Clyde contracted polio. Donna began taking classes at San Jose State University after Clyde’s passing to earn a library credential and graduated cum laude in 1965.Donna became the librarian at Bishop Union High School in Bishop, California, in 1966 where she worked until her retirement. She met and married Graham (Mack) McCalister, Jr. in 1975. Donna and Mack spent their sunset years as an active couple. Most of their years together were spent in Bullhead City, Arizona, except during the hot summer months, when they preferred fifth wheel or motor home living at Pismo Coast Village along California’s central coast.
Donna loved to china paint, play golf, ride her bike, crochet, play bridge, and swim.  She was an avid snow skier for a time before she retired.  Three years ago she moved to the Sacramento in 2003 to be near her son Brian.  She became a resident of Heritage Park.  She loved to travel and most recently cruised through the Panama Canal and along the rivers from Amsterdam to Vienna.  She leaves behind her two sons Brian (wife Linda) Spencer and Jan (wife Yolanda) Spencer, grandchildren Jessica Spencer, Zachary Spencer, Rachel Edwards, Lindsay Spencer, Jonathan Spencer and Joel Spencer, and four great-grandchildren James Spencer, Nadia Spencer, Elizabeth Edwards and Logan Spencer.  She also leaves behind her older brother Herbert Hagen and younger sister Joann Hagen.  Services for Donna will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage Park Clubhouse in Natomas and also at noon Friday, April 14, at the Living Way Foursquare Church in Lancaster, California with Pastor Jan L. Spencer officiating.
