Peter Diaz Soto Peter Diaz Soto, age 47, of Santa Paula, passed away Friday, August 20, 1999 in Santa Paula. Born January 13, 1952 in Santa Paula, he was a life long resident of Ventura County.Mr. Soto worked for Weyerhaeuser Industries in Santa Paula for 14 years as a truck driver.He was an outdoorsman and loved to deep sea fish, hunt, and golf. He especially enjoyed taking pictures of his family. Mr. Soto was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.He is survived by his children, son Peter A. Jr. (and his wife Gabie) Soto, and daughter Shelly (and her husband Mario) Ambriz; Norma Soto; two granddaughters, Stephanie Soto and Sarina Ambriz; mother Bessie Soto; brother Michael Soto; and sisters, Esther Orneles, Lena Ramirez and Barbara Hernandez.God saw the road was getting rough,the hills were hard to climb.He gently closed your loving eyesand whispered, “Peace be thine.”A heart of gold stopped beating.Two shining eyes at rest.God broke our hearts to provehe only takes the best.To some you will be forgotten,to others, just of the past.But to us who loved and lost you,your memory will always last.Graveside services will be today, Friday, August 27 at 11 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Evelyn Schieferle BlaseEvelyn Schieferle Blase passed away at her home in Solimar Beach on Sunday, August 22, 1999.Evie was born in Van Nuys on June 10, 1930, and at an early age moved to Santa Paula with her parents who owned and operated a cattle ranch. Upon graduation from Santa Paula High School in 1948, she went to work at the Citizens State Bank in Santa Paula, where she was employed for 25 years.Shortly after her marriage in 1974 to DeWitt F. Blase, a local attorney, Evie left the bank and assisted her husband in his law practice and attended most of his trials, until they both retired a couple of years ago.She was a member of the Saticoy Country Club, thoroughly enjoyed numerous cruises, and loved tending to her flower gardens and poodles. Evie was a gracious hostess and enjoyed entertaining many friends.She is survived by her husband of 24 years, “Red”; and her nephews, Harold Schieferle of Santa Barbara and Jim Schieferle of Camarillo and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Katie Schieferle, and her brother Harold Schieferle.
Services were held August 26 at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, with burial following at Santa Paula Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Santa Barbara Cancer Foundation, 300 W. A self-employed appliance repairman, he was actively involved in the community of Santa Paula.He is survived by his daughters, Ruth Ann Donley of San Diego and Mary Okesson of Port Hueneme; sons, Thomas Shank of Little Rock, Bob Shank of Ventura, and Ron Shank of Los Molinas; and nine grandchildren.Services will be held on Friday, August 27 at 1 p.m. at Skillin-Carroll Chapel, Santa Paula, the Rev. Sarwan Kumar officiating. Burial is at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Beatrice L. CantrellBeatrice L. Cantrell, age 82, of Santa Paula, passed away August 24, 1999 in Ventura.A homemaker for 68 years, she was born December 15, 1916 in Manning, Oklahoma, and was a county resident for 53 years.She is survived by her son, Harvey Cantrell of Ventura; daughter Betty Sergeant of Huntsville, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sisters, Opal Lance and Tonnie Cooper, both of Santa Paula; and brother Jim Kelly of Ventura.Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 28 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ventura, Roy Ash officiating. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.PHOTOTeresa Telles LopezTeresa Telles Lopez, age 84, of Santa Paula, passed away on August 24, 1999 in Ventura. She was born May 2, 1915 in Globe, Arizona and was a Ventura County resident for 80 years.Ms. Lopez was a member of Casa Mexicana and a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is survived by her brother, John Telles; grandchildren, Brenda Villa, Ronnie Lopez, Kathy Salazar, Patty Nunez, Edward Lopez Jr. and Gloria Rushing; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert; children, Robert Jr., Edward and Stella; and granddaughter Paula.Viewing will be held on Friday, August 27 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil being recited at 7 p.m., both at Pierce Brothers Stetler Chapel. Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church; interment to follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.
