Isaiah Moreno Isaiah Moreno, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Paula on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 after a brief illness.Isaiah was born to Francisco and Delfina Moreno in Santa Paula, January 5, 1918, and came from a family of 11 children. He attended Fillmore High School and Buckhorn Elementary School, where for several years the Moreno family members were the majority of students enrolled there.Isaiah entered the Army in 1941, and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1946, he began working at the Port Hueneme Seabee Base and retired from there in 1982.He enjoyed cooking, traveling, and especially enjoyed the salmon fishing in Alaska.Isaiah is survived by Maria (Triny) Diaz Moreno, his wife of 50 years; their son Richard (Tess) Moreno; grandson Tommy Moreno; daughter Yolanda (Rook) Saenz; granddaughter Nikki (Sam) Wylie and great-grandchildren Cassie and Blair Wylie of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter Michelle Ahner (fiancé Aaron Rathburn) of Whidbey Island, Washington; brothers, Sam Moreno of Santee, Abe (Helen) Moreno, Benny Moreno of Santa Paula, and Danny Moreno of Oxnard; and sister Elizabeth Garcia of Los Angeles.Isaiah was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Delfina; sisters Tillie Perez and Margarita Hernandez; and brothers Walter, Sal and Martin Moreno.He was loved and admired by his family, and will be greatly missed.A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 4 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The family will hold a private burial.The family would like to thank Assisted Home Hospice of Ventura for their kind care and guidance.Norbert G. LunaNorbert passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007. He was born in Santa Paula on August 22, 1925.In 1950 he joined the Marin Corps, where he served 20 years plus. He attained the rank of “Gunny,” and served with the “Dog” Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds in Korea during the “Punch Bowl” in mid-1951. This was the last combat tour for him.“Gunny” Luna was also a drill instructor at the USMC Recruit Depot in San Diego, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Marine Barracks at Point Mugu, in Okinawa with the 3rd Marine Division, and in Vietnam and Hawaii with FMC PAC. He received many awards: Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Korean Service Medal with three stars, United Nations Medal, Korean Presidential Citation, President’s Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, and National Defense Medal.Gunny retired from the Marines in 1972. He went to a small flight school, received his license and became a flight instructor. Retiring from that job, he moved to Rosarito Beach, and lived there for 15 years.He moved back to Santa Paula to be near friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and especially being close to his family.
Norbert will be deeply missed by his sons, Pete (Linda), and Albert (Marie); brother Sid Luna; sisters, Margaret Rodriguez and Mary Ellen Del Rio; four granddaughters and one grandson; one great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.A memorial service was held on July 26 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. A special “Thanks” goes to Martin Vasquez, a special Marine buddy, for his help in the arrangements. To the V.F.W. Color Guard from all his family, thank you.Virginia I. JonesVirginia I. Jones, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2007 at Twin Pines Health Care after being there 27 months. Virginia was born on October 15, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles and Annie Ferguson.Mrs. Jones’ favorite occupation was being a homemaker and doting on her grandchildren. She square-danced for 20 years. Traveling was her thing; she traveled to Europe and visited all 50 states by trailer or motor home. Mrs. Jones also enjoyed painting landscapes and environmental scenery.Virginia is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gordon Paul Jones; her two daughters, Paula (husband Don) Brennecke of Bonham, Texas, and Marilyn Jones of Santa Paula; grandson Scot Brennecke and adopted grandson Richard Brennecke; and four great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at 10 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Victor CarrascoVictor Carrasco, 31, of Quartz Hill, CA, passed away on July 24, 2007. He was born on June 7, 1976 in Santa Paula, CA. Victor is survived by his wife Kelly and 3 adoring daughters, Geovanna, Marissa and Cassandra. In his short lifetime, he gained the respect and love of many family and friends. Funeral services were held in Goodyear, Arizona. Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel made the arrangements.Ann McKechnieThe obituary for Ann McKechnie in the July 6 Santa Paula Times ended with the mention of a celebration of her life on August 11. That date has been cancelled and the celebration will be rescheduled.
