Ramon “Momie” Herrera God bless you all who helped in making the loss of our Dad, grandfather and husband easier with your prayers for him and for us. He went with the Lord October 23, 2007. Yet he lives in our hearts forever.We love you Dad, we’ll miss you so much. The memories of our happy times together will remain with us forever. You are now with the Lord at home where we’ll meet again.Love you very much, always Mom, Ray, Michael, Lorena, Anthony, Anthony Jacob, Gabriel, Marissa, and Michael Christian.Ann GrahamAnn Graham of Santa Paula passed away on October 25, 2007 from lung cancer.Ann was born in Ventura on July 19, 1923 at Sisters Hospital. She attended Washington School, Lincoln School, Ventura Junior High, Ventura Senior High, and Ventura Junior College. She graduated from Oregon State University, where she received the Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, and was active as a performer in the modern dance program.She was noted for her talent as a dress designer, sculptor and seamstress. She will be remembered for her generous service in the kitchen of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and many social organizations.Ann is survived by her husband Gale, brother Robert W. Cooney, children Gary, Marilyn, James and Michael, and granddaughter Olina Graham. Ann’s parents both served as Ventura County Tax Collectors, her father Robert Cooney from 1931 to 1948, and her mother Margaret Cooney from 1948 to 1962.Ann was a member of Girl Scouts, president of Tri-Y, and became May Queen in the 10th grade. In the 11th grade she caught the eye of her husband-to-be, Gale Graham on a school bus trip to Pasadena, where he gave her an illegally plucked pink gardenia from the Huntington Gardens. They recently celebrated their marriage of 61 years.Her activities included many Church Pancake Suppers, golf at Mountain View and Saticoy Regional golf courses, Garden Club, Ebell, and luncheons with the ladies of the Class of ’41.Ann’s family wishes to express their appreciation for the many prayers, e-mails and get well cards during her last days. She was truly blessed by the church, her loving family, and by the community of concerned friends.A memorial celebration will be held in Santa Paula at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17. He was born November 13, 1949 in Santa Paula, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Sanchez; daughter, Lori Sanchez; former wife, Irene Sanchez; son, Paul Sanchez Jr.; daughter, Christina Sanchez; mother, Delfina Sanchez; brother, Johnny Sanchez Jr.; and sisters, Inez (Kitty) Sanchez, Patsy Nunez, Shirley Zuniga, and Christina Aguilar.A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula. We invite all family and friends to join us as we celebrate Paul’s life.George W. Caldwell Jr.George W. Caldwell Jr. joined his Lord in heaven on November 5, 2007. George was born in the family home at the corner of 6th and Pleasant Streets on July 18, 1920 to parents George and Mary Hite Caldwell.He lived his early years with his sister Lydia Mary and brother Madison. George attended McKevett grammar school where his mother taught 5th grade, and later attended Isbell and then graduated from SPUHS in the Class of 1938.While at SPUHS, George was active in the Correspondence, Drama and Latin Clubs. He acted in the Senior Play, and served as Student Body treasurer. His friends from this chapter were Hap Kelsey, Bob Spear, Howard Van Horn and Bill Ree. After high school graduation, George attended Pasadena JC for two years and completed his Bachelor of Commercial Science from Southwestern University School of Accounting.He joined the U.S. Army in October of 1942, and in November of 1943 his unit sailed from Newport News to Oran, Africa on a convoy of English ships manned by Indian crews. The convoy was twice attacked by German bombers. The ship aft of his was the HMT Rohna. The Rohna, now the subject of the book “Disaster at Sea,” was hit by a jet propelled glider bomb. The Indian crew deserted the ship with the only functioning lifesaving equipment, leaving 1,015 young Americans to perish in the cold waters of the Mediterranean.From Africa the convoy went to India, where George spent two years working in a statistical control unit in New Delhi and Calcutta. In June 1945 he volunteered to drive a truck over the Burma Road to Kunning, China. In December 1945 he was shipped back to the states from Karachi about the USS Santa Paula.In 1946, George entered the real estate business in Santa Paula with his father, and 52 years later he retired. In September of 1949, he married his classmate May Duarte and adopted two children, Mark and Martha.During his career, George served on the Ventura County Grand Jury and was a member of the Ventura County Civil Service Commission from 1970-1977 and served as chair for two of those years. He was on the Santa Paula Planning Commission for four years, and also served as president of the Santa Paula Board of Realtors for two years. He was chosen by his peers as “Realtor of the Year” in 1993, and was a member of the California Association of Realtors. He also served as chairman of the Red Cross Blood Bank 1946-1949.George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula, where he served 21 years as a trustee. The church was a big part of his life that he dearly loved. In addition, he is a past member of the Rotary, Lions Club, and a member of the Fillmore/Santa Paula Masonic Lodge #291 F&AM.George is survived by his wife of 58 years, May Duarte Caldwell; brother Madison Caldwell of Washington; son Mark Caldwell of Oklahoma City; daughter Martha Caldwell of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews in California, Georgia and the Pacific Northwest. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Caldwell, and his sister, Mary C. Gould.The family would like to acknowledge Church Roadie, Bud Gooding, Bud Barrick, Bob Russell, Don Oliver, Ernest Peterson and Leo Bartley of the Coffee Club for their friendship and loyalty; George Thompson as a caring person; caregivers Mary Engesser and Maria Aguilar; and the deacons of the Presbyterian Church. A very special thank you to Bo and Margaret Turner for all you have done for the family, both now and over the years. You were special to George.A celebration of George’s life will be held Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at the Santa Paula Presbyterian Church, 121 Davis Street.
