Jeff Bennett, Ventura County’s Chief Deputy District Attorney for the past 13 years, became the first person to announce his candidacy for the open seat on the Ventura County Superior Court. Incumbent Judge Bruce Clarke is not seeking reelection. Flanked by distinguished Ventura County law enforcement and political leaders, Bennett announced his candidacy at a mid-morning press conference on the Government Center quad. Among those present to support Bennett were Ventura DA Greg Totten, former DA Mike Bradbury and other law enforcement leaders, mayors, council members and public servants.Citing his 29 years in law enforcement, including working as a deputy sheriff in Sacramento County, a local police officer, Chief DA Investigator and criminal trial attorney, Bennett said, “I seek this office so that I may continue a lifetime of service to the people of Ventura of County, especially those of our residents who have been the victims of violent crime.”“As your next Superior Court Judge, I will apply the law fairly in all cases. I will be a tough and fair judge, who above all, is committed to respecting the rights of all persons and protecting the independence of the Court.”
Jeff Bennett is 51 years old, married and the father of two daughters. He is a Ventura County native.
