Bill Wayne Downs
Bill Downs, age 70, of Fillmore, died Friday, October 27, 2000 at his home following a brief illness. He was born October 7, 1930 in Cordell, Oklahoma and was a 60 year county resident, moving here in 1940.Bill owned and operated Eastside Market in Fillmore for 20 years. He was a lifetime honorary member of the El Rio Lions Club. For many years Bill coached El Rio Little League teams; he also coached and was a sponsor of many softball teams.He will be dearly missed by his wife of 27 years, Evelia Downs; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Clark and husband Bob Rupp of Santa Paula, Brenda and Lupe Hernandez of Ventura, Gloria and Jose Pimentel of Fillmore, Tonya Castro of Fillmore, and Brenda and Sammy Martinez of Fillmore; sisters, Verna Mae Marble of Reno, Nevada and Wyona Newberry of Sacramento; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Everett Marble of Reno, Nevada and Jim Clara of Orange County.Private family services were held.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Max A. AbbiattiMax A. Abbiatti, age 83, of Santa Paula, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in Santa Paula after a brief illness.Mr. Abbiatti was born on January 16, 1917 in West Plains, Missouri, and was a 64 year county resident. He worked for 21 years as a postal clerk in Santa Paula. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Nova; son and daughter-in-law Marlin and Sheri Abbiatti; daughter and son-in-law Maxine and Carl Wiley; grandsons, Jeff, David and Phillip Wyand; granddaughters, Amy, Jill and Clare Abbiatti; sisters-in-law, Eunice Abbiatti, Hazel Skaggs and Daisy Skaggs; nieces and nephews, Barbara Betz, Dixie and Harold Carpenter, Charlene Smith, Bill and Wanda Abbiatti, Gary Skaggs, Linda Skaggs, Skip Skaggs, Noralene Kelly, Don and Nancy Hill, and Mike Skaggs; and many great nieces and nephews.Graveside services were held October 30 at Santa Paula Cemetery, with the Reverend Ken Bevel officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Abbiatti’s name to the Westside Baptist Building Fund.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary.Ronald Dale FoleyRonald Dale Foley, age 47, of Santa Paula, passed away October 25, 2000 while working in Oxnard, following a sudden illness.Mr. Foley was born August 9, 1953 in Ventura and was raised in Santa Paula, attending local schools. He moved back to Ventura County 15 years ago.He loved fishing, camping, and coaching softball and basketball at Santa Paula High School. He loved his family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with them and his dogs. Ron was a fun and loving person who always loved life and will be missed by all.He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jo Foley of Santa Paula; daughters, Sandy Mason (fiance Brandon Newman) of Santa Paula, Nyla Scott (husband Jason) of Santa Paula, and Brandie Clark (husband Timothy) of Port Hueneme; son Kirk Mason (wife Debbie) of Fort Bragg; grandchildren, Cody, Justin, Ryan, Hailee, Ali, Sierra, and Casey; mother Betty Hudson; sister Rhonda Mayes; brothers, Dennis Foley, David Foley, Robert Shatswell and Larry Shatswell; aunts and uncles, Gary and Dee, Maxine and Patrick, Junior and Chuck; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and friends; and favorite dogs, J.D., Mickey and Chase. He was preceded in death by his father Lum, nephew Eric Beaver, and his grandparents.Services were held October 28 at Santa Paula Cemetery, with Cecil Spurlock officiating.

She worked as a sorter/packer for Saticoy Lemon Association.She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roberto; daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen and Ray Bass of Bakersfield, and Irene and Chris Sandoval of Santa Paula; grandchildren, Kathy (husband Duane) Gardner of Santa Paula, Aaron (wife Denise) Bass of Bakersfield, and Chris, Vanessa and Natalie Sandoval of Santa Paula; great grandchild Zachery Bass of Bakersfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalio and Victoria Aguilar, and brothers Arnulfo and Joe Aguilar.Rosary will be held at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula, on Wednesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. Mass will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Santa Paula on November 2 at 9 a.m., the Rev. Hubbard, age 78, of Santa Paula, died Saturday night, October 28, 2000, at home after a brief illness.Mrs. Hubbard was born July 18, 1922 in Buffalo, Missouri, and was a 61 year Santa Paula resident.She owned and operated Opal’s Beauty Salon in Santa Paula for many years. Through her successful business, as well as past membership in the Santa Paula Moose Lodge and many other community ties, Opal touched the lives of many local residents. We are all better for knowing this sweet lady.Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hubbard. She is survived by sons, Ken of Ventura and Rod (wife Melissa) of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Bethel Haws of Twenty Nine Palms, Gladys Pumphrey of Paramount, and Inez Lawson of Wyoming; and niece Phyllis Roberson of Morro Bay. She loved so gently and she is so missed.Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1 in the chapel at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
