Santa Paula TimesThe Santa Paula Memorial Hospital Board of Directors has named an interim CEO to replace departing Chief Executive Officer Bill Greene, who last week announced he was leaving the “Hospital on the Hill.”C. Mark Gregson is already on the job after SPMH directors named him as the interim CEO on Wednesday, Nov. 15.Gregson, like Greene, is an employee of Quorum Health Resources, a hospital management firm which contracts with Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.Gregson came to Santa Paula from Puget Sound Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, like SPMH a smaller, more intimate medical facility. He has more than 20 years experience in the medical field, including serving as CEO and other management positions with hospitals in North Carolina, Florida, and Arizona.“We think Gregson is an excellent choice to help us keep things moving,” said SPMH Board of Directors President Phil Romney.Gregson, who holds a masters degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Health-Hospital Administration from the University of Florida, has an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Administration from Michigan's Kalamazoo College.
“I am excited in assisting Santa Paula Memorial Hospital during this transition and am enthusiastic about continuing the progress and partnership between the board of directors, medical staff and community,” said Gregson, who started at SPMH on Thursday. “There is a real momentum happening here aimed at making Santa Paula Memorial Hospital a part of the future of health care, while maintaining the quality of patient-care the hospital is known for. I look forward to being part of these efforts.”The desire to maintain that momentum contributed to the board's decision to hire an interim CEO, noted Romney, who several weeks ago addressed the hospital's future - and an ambitious drive to recapture Santa Clara River Valley market share - at the annual staff award dinner.Gregson and his wife, Mary, have three children, ages 6 to 17.He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, active in the Rotary Club and has served as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and March of Dimes.
