The Santa Paula sixth-grade traveling team spotted the Cavs from Santa Fernando Valley 12 points in opening minutes, but kept battling back. With time running out Santa Paula lost 41-35 to the tournament champions. Santa Paula won three other games 64-9, 661-20, and 63-10.
“I think the lack of competition in the other games hurt us for the final game against the Cavs, said Coach Mike Mitchell. “We started of a little intimidated before gaining our composure and made a run at them. The team played real well and everybody got involved in the scoring.”Travis Marella, Wakefield, Rodriguez all averaged four points a game. Lascano and Hernandez added 10 points each, while Daniel Kolbeck and Casas led the way with an average of 15 per game.“Everyone was looking for the open man and playing as a team,” said Coach Mitchell.
