AnnaMarie Loffswold AnnaMarie Loffswold of Ventura passed away Thursday, April 12, 2001 in a Ventura hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Loffswold was born in Santa Paula to Jesus and Sophia Munoz, and had been a county resident all of her life.She was a devoted homemaker and an avid gardener. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing AnnaMarie knows the true meaning of goodness, kindness, love and compassion. She will be missed by everyone she touched.She is survived by her husband, George Loffswold of Ventura; three sons, Thomas and wife Mary Pacheco Jr., Jesse and wife Sherrie Pacheco, and William Loffswold, all of Ventura; three daughters, Beatrice Swanks, Kathy Pacheco, and Diana and husband Mike Gleason, all of Ventura; one brother, Raul Munoz of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Christine, Theresa, Thomas, Dylan, Josh, Jake, Rusty, Stephen and Timothy; and three great grandchildren, Nicole, Christian and Andrew. Mrs. Loffswold was preceded in death by one brother, Jesus, one sister, Ruby Osuna, and one grandson, Tony “Mijo” Swanks.Mass was held April 16 at Sacred Heart Church, Ventura, with entombment following at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the Easter Seal Infant Development Program in her memory.Mrs. Loffswold was entrusted to the care of the Joseph Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.Hazel Frances MoklerHazel Frances Mokler, 86, of Santa Paula, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 in a Santa Paula convalescent home following a brief illness.She was born December 16, 1914 in New Albany, Mississippi. She married Harve G. Mokler on November 14, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana. They lived in El Paso, Texas until 1953, and then moved to Bakersfield, and then to Delano in 1962. Harve worked for the City of Delano for the Public Works Department. In 1976 Hazel and Harve moved to Santa Paula. Harve preceded Hazel in death on January 30, 1982.Hazel was a homemaker, a member of Royal Neighbors of Santa Paula, and faithfully attended the Community Church of the Nazarene.She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Horton of Minnesota; sons, David and Donald Mokler; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her four brothers, Lester, Clarence, Wayne and Eugene Thomas, all of Mississippi.A memorial service will be held at Community Church of the Nazarene, 3452 N. Ojai Rd., on Thursday, April 19th at 2 p.m.Jimmy CanoJimmy Cano, age 64, passed away in Auburn, Washington on April 8, 2001. He was born January 30, 1937 in Santa Paula to Santiago and Carmen Cano.He leaves his wife, Sue Cano of Auburn, WA; children, Kitty Cano of Arlington, WA, Jim Jr. and Carmela Bolen of Auburn, WA, Debra Lee of Seattle, WA, and Casandra Cohen of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson.Following his graduation from Santa Paula High School (1955) he joined the U.S. Army. Later he moved to Washington, where he worked as a draftsman until retirement.Jim was sent to Pan Toon, China in 1977 for the purpose of designing fish hatcheries for the Chinese people. He was the first American since World War II who was allowed into this part of the country. He was an accomplished artist and poet.
Military services were held at Tahoma National Cemetery.Normand J. HouleNormand J. Houle, age 76, of Santa Paula, passed away April 12, 2001 following a brief illness. He was born May 9, 1924 in Quebec, Canada, and was a county resident for 12 years.Mr. Houle was a retired film art director in Hollywood. He was a past member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Osborn of Burlington, Vermont; niece Ginette La Falille of Coaticook, Quebec, Canada; and long time companion Sharan McNerney of Santa Paula.No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.June L. MalandLifelong Santa Paula resident June L. Maland, 78, died Monday, April 16, 2001 in Santa Paula. She was born June 3, 1922 in Santa Paula.Mrs. Maland was a longtime member of the Church of Christ Scientist in Santa Paula and was a reader and practitioner for the church. She was a member of the Democratic Central Committee for the State of California, and was always very active and dedicated to politics and campaigning for her party.She was known for her love and compassion towards animals, and had been a Humane Officer as well as a longtime member of the Humane Society. She often took in stray animals, caring for and nurturing them. June had traveled extensively, and was proud of having visited at least 65 countries.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. A. Jake and Jeanette Maland of Santa Paula; granddaughters, Courtney Maland of Atascadero and Sarah Maland of Santa Paula; cousin Kent Clunie of Prescott, Arizona; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Reola and Pat Lavelle of Ojai, Roby and Roy Stenshol of Camarillo, Beth and Al Maland of Idyllwild, and Beverly Worthan of Camarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her niece, Chris Ortiz, R.N., for her ongoing care and friendship to June.Mrs. Maland was preceded in death by her husband, Les Maland, who was the former mayor of Santa Paula, and her son David Maland, both in 1998.A memorial service will be held Friday, April 20 at 3 p.m. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.Memorial contributions may be made in June’s name to the Santa Clara Valley Hospice, P.O.
