The Lady Cardinal varsity got a hard-fought win over Grace Brethren Tuesday.

The Lady Cards battled sickness and had foul trouble throughout the game. They were tied 12-12 after the first quarter and were down 27-17 at the half.  The Lady Cards found themselves down 37-29 in the third quarter, after falling behind as many as 12 points. In the fourth quarter the Cards dug deep and fought their way back, playing solid defense, holding Grace to 3 points, while scoring 16 to take home the victory.

“A good win for the lady Cards; they are learning how to win, never giving up, and always playing hard,” said Coach Mark Blankenship.  “This was a game of desire, and effort. The Lady Cardinals showed that they had both, pulling out the key league win at home.”

The Lady Cards are now 5-2 in league and 9-11 overall.

Leading the way for Santa Paula were: Felicia Magana, 17 points, 1 steal, with two, 3 point attempts out of 5; Miranda Magana, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals; Lupita Ramirez, 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals; Danya Zizumbo, 6 points, 2 rebounds.
