Chamber offers free business seminar today

The Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce is offering a free business seminar, “Basic Grant Writing: Assisting Your Non-Profit Agency” on Friday, June 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Chamber headquarters, 200 N. 10th St. in the historic train depot.

The course covers the basic skills and concepts needed to understand how to help non-profit organization write grant requests or proposals. It also introduces the process of grant writing, and explores the participation required from the non-profit in order to write a grant request, covering needs assessment, program description, ethics, mission and vision statements, goals and objectives, and researching for a good funder.

Instructor Elaine Aldrete serves as treasurer of the Board of Directors of Grants To You, headquartered in Prescott, Arizona with chapters throughout the United States. She is currently the program coordinator and instructor for Grants To You – Ventura County Chapter. To date Grants To You has trained more than 500 volunteers to assist local non-profit agencies in receiving nearly $1.2 million.

Born in New Hampshire, Aldrete briefly lived in Texas and moved to California over 30 years ago. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix, and spent many years with Kurt Bonham, CPA working exclusively with non-profit agencies in the accounting and business administration fields. She now lives in Santa Paula.
