By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe search has even reached to the outskirts of Santa Paula as law enforcement officials continue to try to locate a young Moorpark woman missing since the early hours of July 5.And now a $25,000 reward is being offered for information on the whereabouts of 20-year-old Megan Barroso, whose rented green Pontiac Sunfire was found shot with bullets, the engine running and windshield wipers on, near a Moorpark highway interchange.Sheriff search and rescue teams have even combed Wheeler Canyon, Balcom Canyon and the Steckel Park area to try to find Barroso, who left a Newbury Park July 4th celebration early Thursday morning; her vehicle was discovered straddling the center divider at the New Los Angeles Avenue interchange of highways 118 and 23, shortly before 4 a.m. and less than two miles from her Moorpark apartment.Blood was found inside the car and one of Barroso’s shoes was left on the pavement.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has offered a $25,000 reward for information that leads of Barroso’s recovery; a special telephone number - 482-4390 - that volunteers can call to assist in search efforts. The Moorpark City Council is expected to donate an additional $10,000 to the reward fund.Barroso is 5-feet 4-inches tall, weighs 110 pounds, has shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a green, short-sleeved T-shirt and white capri pants.A July 11 search of Grimes Canyon did yield results when the skull of a Simi Valley man - been missing for almost two years - was found near the top of the canyon and not far from where his wrecked vehicle was discovered about three months after he disappeared.Anyone with any information on Barroso, or who saw her or her green Pontiac Sunfire on July 5, are asked to call Sgt. Tim Lorenzen, VCSD Major Crimes Unit, 654-2348, or Det. Rick Barrios at 654-2355.
