Chumash Youth Summer program

The Museum of Ventura County is now accepting registration for its 2013 summer Chumash Youth Program, which gives children hands-on learning about Ventura County’s indigenous Native American culture.

The program will be held at the Museum the week of June 17-21 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All students currently in 3rd and 4th grades are eligible and the session is limited to 15 participants.

The Chumash Youth Program is a junior anthropology program that teaches children about the culture of the Chumash through songs, stories, and games. Students will use traditional methods and materials to make their own clapper stick instrument, arrowhead, and plant fiber string.

T-shirt, snacks, and all materials are included in the registration fee of $60 for the general public, $45 for Museum members. Partial scholarships are available. The Museum of Ventura County is located at 100 East Main Street in downtown Ventura. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission to the exhibitions is $4 adults, $3 seniors, $1 children 6-17, members and children under 6 are free. Paid events include free admission to the galleries, and the first Sundays of every month are free general admission for the public.
