?Nahum Reyes was recently notified that he is being awarded the President?s Student Service Scholarship in recognition of his outstanding service to our community?, says Pat Zwagerman, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Paula. Along with the certificate comes a certificate from the President and the President?s Student Service Awards gold pin and a $1000. check made payable to Nahum and the college of his choice. In April 1992 Nahum Reyes, then 8 years old, moved to California with his family. They settled in Fillmore where Nahum attended the North Fillmore Boys & Girls Club for several years. Nahum says, ? I really enjoyed going to the Boys & Girls Club because I met some new friends. I was really lucky because I went on many field trips and went to new places that I had never seen before, thanks to the Boys & Girls Club. In 1998 Nahum?s family moved to Santa Paula to buy their first home. It was then that Nahum joined the new Boys & Girls Club located at Las Piedras Park Community Policing Building. He was one of the first members to sign up and credits the Club with being the reason he stayed out of trouble. Nahum was chosen as ?Youth of the Year? by the Club and is now on staff at the Las Piedras site assisting with the computers and homework as well as sports and games. Nahum has also been very helpful within the community. He put together the flyers, brochure and C.D. on the proposed Weed and Seed site. ?Congratulations Nahum! We are very proud of your accomplishment.?
