Kiwanis Club of Santa Paula installs Bill Grant as 1999-2000 President

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Paula celebrated its 51st year and lauded one of its own as the recipient of an international award at the club's Sept. 30 installation gala. Bill Grant was was welcomed as the 1999-2000 President during the dinner, which featured the presentation of the international George F. Hixon Fellow award to Don Olivier, past club president and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis District 42. It was the first time the Santa Paula Kiwanis Club has garnered such an honor for a member.On hand was Outgoing District 42 Lt. Governor Howard Young of Oxnard - also noted for his astonishing collection of Kiwanis buttons - who oversaw the deinstallation of officers, with Incoming District 42 Lt. Governor Roderick Brown - of the Ventura East Kiwanis Club - installing the new board of officers and at large members.Outgoing President Russell King and his wife Molly King offered welcoming remarks, and Young and Brown spoke on Kiwanis ideals and goals for community enrichment.Grant said his plans for the club for the upcoming year include treatment of children worldwide who lack iodine, as well as localized projects.In addition, "I want to bring back all the former members of Kiwanis, sit down and write notes to them. . . some have great ideas and we'd love not only their input, but to also socialize with them! In fact, we're inviting all of our wives to join the club," Grant noted.The annual Citrus Festival - the major annual club fundraising event - might be expanded to include a wine garden and beer garden as a way to generate more funds that are returned to address community needs, including a major focus of the club, youth services and activities.
1999-2000 officers installed were: President Bill Grant, President Elect David Luna, Vice President Jeff Davies, Secretary Dan Robles, Treasurer Roger Strange, Immediate Past President Russell King.Board at Large members for the upcoming year are Vic Glazener, Stan Howlett, Ed Kessler, Gene Marzec, Don Olivier, Ken Stock and Stephen Stuart."We're really looking forward to another year of helping the community," said Grant. "The Santa Paula Kiwanis has bigger plans to generate more funding to expand all our programs and services."
