Published:  November 13, 2015

Blanchard Elementary School students celebrated Veteran’s Day Tuesday with music poetry and more. VFW Mercer Prieto Post 2043 and the Korean Veteran’s Chapter 56 were on hand for the morning ceremony to present the colors. Armed forces banners were displayed (as seen above) and VFW member Rey Frutos read about the history of Veteran’s Day. The third grade class of Mark Fournier led the student body and others in the singing of the various service songs. Fournier also read the poem, “What is a Vet.” The celebration ended with a three-volley rifle salute and the playing of taps. VFW members on hand were, Jerry Olivas (Post Commander), Rey Frutos, David Garcia, David Silva, Frank Osuna, John Hurtado and Fred Vera.
