“It appeared the vehicle deflected off the guard rail and into the center divider abutment,” before coming to a stop, said AAFC Harber. When SPFD personnel arrived on scene, the vehicle passenger, Cassandra Montour of Fillmore, was out of the vehicle and “walking around,” but Morales was trapped inside. Firefighters had to use powered extrication equipment to free Morales; he and Montour were treated on scene by SPFD EMTs and ambulance paramedics before being transported to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. Morales and Montour were treated in the hospital’s Emergency Room and then released.Said AAFC Harber, “It’s amazing how relatively minor the injuries appeared to be compared to the impact the car took. . .the engine and transmission were ejected out of the vehicle and into the middle of the highway. The engine landed in the number one lane and the transmission hit in the number two lane, about 200 feet away. It a was pretty spectacular accident.”The cause of the accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
