Eleanor Wright Bousman
Eleanor Wright Bousman, 73, died suddenly August 10 of a massive heart attack following surgery.A 49-year resident of Santa Paula, she was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of four children of Leigh and Gladys Wright. She grew up in Kansas City, and continued her education at the College of Wooster in Ohio, where she met her future husband, Thomas Bousman. They both graduated in 1950 and went on for graduate studies at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. They were married in 1951.The Bousmans moved to Santa Paula in 1953 where the Rev. Dr. Thomas Bousman was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church for 41 years. Ellie was an able partner in ministry, assisted in the Sunday School, participated in the United Presbyterian Women’s Circles and sang in the Chancel Choir. She was elected to serve as an ordained elder on The Session, as well as on several committees of the Presbytery of Santa Barbara.Born Eleanor Louise Wright on March 10, 1929, she eventually found her deepest satisfaction in being a wife and mother. The four Bousman children were born in Santa Paula, and Ellie was active in their school-related activities. For a time she was employed as a school bus driver, a clerk at Moore’s General Store, and a clerk at the Fabric Depot. She was an active member in PEO, as past president in local chapter LR and more recently in a Palm Desert chapter. Ellie also served at the polls on the local election board, and sang in the Santa Clara Valley Community Choral Society. At one time she was a volunteer driver transporting children to Head Start activities. A member of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, Ellie painted in oils, acrylics and watercolors. She enjoyed a variety of crafts, needlework and sewing. She was also well-known for the pod and cone wreaths she created for many years.The family camping trips throughout the Great American West were an annual adventure.She and her husband planned and served as tour hosts for fourteen overseas trips to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Thomas of Santa Paula; daughter Peggy Bousman of Riverside; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn Bousman and Arne Abrahamsen of Bergen, Norway; son and daughter-in-law Rob Bousman and Trina Deegan of Oceanside; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Rachel Wright of Rockville, Maryland; sister-in-law Helen Wright of Coshocton, Ohio; plus numerous nieces and nephews. The six grandchildren are Erin and Thomas in Norway, and Matt, Shane, April and James in California. She was preceded in death by son Rick in 1973; a sister Relda Johnson and a brother Norman Wright.Memorial services will be held at the Santa Paula First Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, August 24 at 1:00 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Paula First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, or the Santa Clara Valley Hospice.Death NoticeAurora G.
