Alison Lynne “Ali” VanderPloeg Memorial services will be held for Ali VanderPloeg on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road. There will be a surf “paddle out” in her memory at California Street in Ventura at 7:30 that morning. Ali died at her father’s home in Reno, Nevada on Tuesday, February 4. She was 29 years old.Ali was born on May 18, 1973 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended elementary school at Mupu School in Santa Paula, and graduated from Ygnacio Valley High School in Walnut Creek in 1991. She attended Pomona College and graduated from Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona with a degree in adventure education in 1996.For the past seven years she has worked in outdoor education with American River-area whitewater rafting companies, as well as climbing and mountaineering with Pacific Crest Outward Bound School based in Portland, Oregon. Over the past two years she has been a co-owner of Ventura-based Seastone Outdoor Adventures, devoting her time to the surf instruction side of the business. She had a passion for adventure sports and for sharing her love of the outdoors with people of all ages, especially children.She is survived by her sister, Kristin VanderPloeg; her parents, Pat VanderPloeg-Sullivan and Rich VanderPloeg and their partners, Larry Sullivan and Jennifer Lee; grandparents Fred and Evelyn Stewart of Santa Paula, and Alfred and Lois VanderPloeg of Medford, Oregon; and aunt and uncle Chuck and Brenda Stewart of Santa Paula.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.John Kenner BibbJohn Kenner Bibb passed away peacefully February 9, 2003 at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, two weeks short of his 89th birthday. He was born in Pender County, North Carolina March 2, 1914.John retired in 1971 after 36 years in Federal Civil Service. He had spent six years in the U.S. Coast Guard and two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by Gladys, his wife of almost 60 years. He is also survived by two sons, John Michael of Hawaii and Steven Eugene of Santa Paula. A third son, David Loren, predeceased him in 1998. John is survived by seven grandchildren, Brandi Langarica of Fair Oaks, Kelii Bibb of Hawaii, and Loren, Nicole, Candace, Chelsea and Chyanne Bibb of Santa Paula; and also three great-grandchildren.
