Alex De La Rosa, Sr.
Alex De La Rosa, Sr., 42, of Santa Paula, passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 at 2:45 a.m. in the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.Alex, Sr. was born May 25, 1961 in Santa Paula, California. He was a resident of Santa Paula all his life. He will always be remembered for his good looks, charisma, charming ways, sense of humor, blunt attitude, and his many outstanding tattoos.He is survived by his mother, Rosalie De La Rosa of Santa Paula; daughter Amy De La Rosa of Oxnard; his only son Alex De La Rosa, Jr. of Oxnard; daughter Elizabeth De La Rosa of Santa Paula; brothers Frank De La Rosa of Ventura, Edward (Huero) Molina of Santa Paula, Jimmy De La Rosa of San Diego, and John De La Rosa of Santa Paula; sisters Viola De La Rosa of Saticoy, Eleanor Cardoza of San Jose, and Lupe Castaneda of Santa Paula; uncle Tony Gonzales of Fillmore; and his fiancée of three years, Joann Houge of Santa Paula; also many other uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from everywhere. He will always be remembered and missed in our hearts.Alex was preceded in death by his father Juan De La Rosa of Santa Paula, sister Erma (Tootie) Rizzo of Ojai, and brothers Danny Molina and Jimmy Molina, both of Santa Paula.Funeral services were held privately in Santa Paula by immediate family members.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Marie C. MerrikenMarie C. Merriken, 92, of Fillmore, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Merriken was born December 31, 1910 in San Bernardino, and was an 88-year resident of Ventura County.She was a 4H Club leader for many years, as well as a judge at the annual fashion show at the Ventura County Fair. Marie was the oldest known living student from the “Little Red Schoolhouse” now located on Highway 126 at Toland Road between Santa Paula and Fillmore.Mrs. Merriken is survived by her daughters, Joyce Morgan of Fillmore and Nancy Sather of Santa Fe, NM; six grandchildren; her brothers, Leon Culbertson of Meeker, CO and Robert J. Culbertson of Santa Paula; one niece and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Merriken, and son Richard Merriken.Graveside services will be Monday, November 24 at 12 noon, to be followed with burial at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Moises Torres AparicioMoises Torres Aparicio, 83, of Santa Paula, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura due to a sudden illness.A lifelong Santa Paula resident, he was born May 26, 1920 in Santa Paula. As a veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy. Moises was retired as a lead maintenance worker for the City of Santa Paula.For over 25 years, his greatest enjoyment was to have his family and friends around him. He will be greatly missed.Moises is survived by his sons, Robert (wife Barbara) Aparicio of Santa Paula and Edward (wife Martha) Aparicio of Oxnard; daughters Ida Bustoz (husband Edward) and Peggy Melgoza (husband Jessie), both of Santa Paula; grandchildren, Robert, Jr., James, Michael, Anthony, Jessie, Edward, Jr., Tommy, Daniel and Lisa; six great grandchildren; brothers Art, Ruben, Trinidad and Joe; and sister Mary.Visitation will be from 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 23 at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula. Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. that same evening at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 24 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
