Hazel T. Kay Hazel T. Kay, of Santa Paula, passed away Friday, May 6, 2004 after a brief illness. Hazel had lived in Santa Paula since 1966, when she moved from Culver City.Hazel was born in Muskegon, Michigan on September 21, 1924. She attended the University of Michigan and received degrees in biochemistry and English. She served, with honor, in the United States Army. She was also a biochemist for the VA Hospital in Los Angeles and a lab technician for Aramco Oil. Hazel retired as the supervisor for the Santa Paula Memorial Laboratory, where she worked for over 20 years.Her interests were abundant. She traveled extensively with her husband Heinz and her many friends. She was deeply involved with ARC, the Association for Retarded Citizens, on whose behalf she dedicatedly worked for most of her life. She was a long-time and active member of the Soroptimists of Santa Paula, and a board member of the Santa Paula Housing Authority and numerous other organizations and boards. She especially enjoyed playing bridge and other card games with her friends and family.Her husband Heinz and children Ben and Carolyn predeceased Hazel. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Jordan (husband Tom) and their children Tom, Heather, Matthew, Michael, and great grandson Christian; and daughter Cezane Joharchi (husband Abdol) and their children Hannah, Avery and Madelyn. Hazel also leaves her beloved Santa Paula community and her close-knit friends.Hazel will be remembered for her amazing intelligence, quick wit, gracious charm and generous spirit.
A memorial service is planned for Friday, May 14 at Spanish Hills Country Club, 999 Crestview Ave., Camarillo at 5 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ventura County Association for Retarded Citizens, Kay Memorial Fund, 5103 Walker St., Ventura, CA 93003.
