The staff and Board of the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) raised over $3,500 in response to the South Asian tsunami disaster. Funds were distributed January 31 to American Red Cross, Catholic Relief Services, Direct Relief International, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, and UNICEF.In response to one of the most extensive disasters of our time, many of the CEDC staff were looking for a way to help. Executive Director Rodney Fernandez offered to take any staff contributions to the CEDC Board of Directors for approval of a CEDC matching contribution. CEDC staff quickly took the offer to heart and came up with $1,270 to contribute to various relief efforts. The CEDC Board of Directors responded graciously with a $2,500 contribution, for a total of $3,770.“We were struck by the generosity of staff in the wake of such a devastating disaster. The Board wanted to show their support and contribute as well,” says CEDC Board President Zeeda Daniele.
