In keeping with their ongoing commitment to support charitable organizations, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has donated $2,000 to the Blanchard/Santa Paula Library’s FLAIR Literacy Program. The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation Board granted the donation to FLAIR after an employee of the company submitted a proposal for review on behalf of the literacy program. Bonnie Bornhauser, a local Enterprise employee, said she made the request because “I have volunteered for FLAIR and know the difference the program makes in people’s lives. Participants have the opportunity to make a better life for themselves, free of charge.”Family Literacy: Aid In Reading (FLAIR) and Families For Literacy (FFL) are free Blanchard Library Literacy programs serving the entire family. We teach English reading, writing, math and job market skills by providing one-to-one volunteer tutoring for adults who need instruction in all academic areas. We also offer computer instruction in reading, written language and math skills.FFL, our family literacy component, involves parents with children 2-5 years old, and focuses on making reading a family fun activity while stressing the importance of parents as early teachers. We are also in partnership with the Santa Paula Elementary School District to train and provide “in school” volunteer tutors for children at risk.In addition, we offer an ESL program, using small classes, tutors, and English language tapes and computer programs.FLAIR/FFL’s purpose/goal in our community is to provide opportunities for participants to develop basic education, job market and parenting skills that will increase their value in the workforce and enhance the probability that their children will stay in school.
It is through grants and donations such as this one just received from Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation that these programs can continue to operate.Enterprise began in 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri with a single office and seven vehicles, and has grown into the largest car rental company in the United States, both by fleet size and number of locations. Enterprise operates a fleet of more than 700,000 vehicles from approximately 6,000 locations in North America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany.
