Barbara Webster 5th graders learn about “La Bamba”

Cecelia Navarro’s 5th grade class from Barbara Webster School has been studying about the one-time popular song, “La Bamba”. As a part of their study, local artist and musician Xavier Montes played his harp for the students in front of Blanchard Community Library. Montes told the students that there was more than one version of the song, and played a more traditional-sounding version, followed by the 1958 Ritchie Valens hit song and asked the kids to sing along on the chorus. “La Bamba” is a folk song whose origins can be traced to the Mexican state of Veracruz over 300 years ago.
