It will be a very special tribute when the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Paula honors Justice Edwin F. Beach and the late Janet Beach with a “Toast” on June 9th at the Santa Paula Community Center. “The Toast of the Town” will start with a social hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the tribute at 8 p.m., said Pat Zwagerman, executive director of the club.“Basically, because we've done agricultural leaders in the past we decided that with all the contributions Ed and Janet Beach have made to the community that it was time to honor them. . .they've both been very involved in many facets of the Santa Paula community,” she noted.Tickets for the event, sponsored by First Western Bank, are $65 each or $520 for a table of eight. The annual toast is one of the club's major fund raisers and one of Santa Paula's most popular events. And it would be hard to find a couple more popular and well-respected as the Beaches: Janet, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, was deeply involved with the arts and education, passions shared by her husband. Janet founded the Santa Paula Elementary School District Community Fund that provided a wide array of opportunities for students to experience the arts. In addition, she was an active supporter of the Santa Paula Theater Center, Blanchard Community Library, Santa Paula Historical Society and many other organizations. Janet was honored as a Santa Paula Woman of History; EdShe and Ed - equally involved in many aspects of the Santa Paula community, including as a member of the Rotary - hosted numerous fund raisers, many of them concerts, at their Santa Paula home.
Pianist Bob Andrews, a close friend of the Beaches and the “star” of many such concerts, will provide “background music for the dinner and the toast,” said Zwagerman. Attorney Rob Sawyer will oversee the speakers to include Cathy Barringer who will speak on Janet, as well as lawyer Phil Drescher and several members of the Beach family, “a surprise” just which of the seven Beach children, Zwagerman added.Sawyer will be wearing judicial robes and Ed Beach will find himself on the other side of the bench, she promised, in a unique setting, half courtroom and half garden party. For more information, call the club at 525-7910.
