The Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors heard arguments on both sides of Measure A7, regarding moving the city’s CURB line, at their March 27 meeting. Bob Gonzales spoke for the measure, and John Turturro presented the opposing argument.Following the presentations, which included response to questions from the Board, the Board discussed benefits A7 would bring to Santa Paula. Much discussion centered on the relationship of Measure A7 benefits to the Chamber’s Mission Statement, “to promote economic vitality and be the Voice of Business.”
It was noted that Santa Paula is currently facing $165,000,000 of unmet city needs, in addition to the need for a new sewer plant at a cost of $80,000,000 or more. The Board determined that revenue the city would receive from any future development in Adams Canyon must benefit the city, with Measure A7 guaranteeing those benefits. The Chamber voted overwhelmingly to support Measure A7.
