Supervisor Kathy Long announced today that the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund has awarded the Ventura County Cancer Task Force $100,000 for the Health Care Agency Mobile Mammography Project, sponsored by the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation. “I am so proud to receive these funds that will greatly enhance our outreach through the Mobile Mammography project. This project will reach many uninsured women and provide mammography for early detection of breast cancer, and will save lives” said Supervisor Long. The Breast Cancer Prevention Fund (BCPF) was founded in 2004, in response to the need for affordable mammograms for underserved women in the state of Washington. The simple mission of the BCPF is “to save lives today by providing funds to pay for mammograms for uninsured women...” said Mr. Jim Paton, BCPF Executive Director. Supervisor Long was contacted by BCPF after learning of the local efforts to establish a mobile mammography program for underserved women.“This support from the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund will allow the Mobile Mammography Project to make significant progress toward overcoming a number of barriers that prevent women from having regular mammograms, particularly those that face transportation and financial barriers, said Dr. Cheryl Lambing, President of the Medical Resource Foundation, a major funder for the Mobile Mammography unit.
