The subject “suddenly ran from the house and across East Harvard Boulevard,” chased by SPPD officers, including Senior Officer Ryan Smith and his K-9 partner Rex. Saviers said that when Smith “realized that the subject was into the campus of Isbell Middle School, not knowing if the subject was armed or what he might do, and in an attempt to not let him reach the campus, Rex was released.” Rex, noted Saviers, “detained the subject prior to him reaching the Isbell Middle School campus.”Santa Paula Fire EMTs and ambulance paramedics treated Jason Kohr, 27 of Santa Paula, on scene before he was transported to Santa Paula Hospital. Kohr was treated for a dog bite and the “injuries he received when he was taken to the ground by the K-9,” said Saviers. Upon his release from the hospital Kohr was transported to the Santa Paula Police Station, where he was booked and then taken to Ventura County Jail.Saviers said that Kohr was charged for the warrants - one for a driving under the influence violation and the second for a spousal battery violation - as well as for resisting or delaying a police officer, giving false information to a police officer, and possession of a controlled substance “suspected to be methamphetamine.”
