By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula TimesShe has lived in Santa Paula just shy of a year, but Judith A. Klement has become a well-known name in the city’s active arts community: and an exhibit of her oil, mixed media and pastel paintings are the focus of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts Featured Artist exhibit through November.“Klement-Time Art” is a one-woman show that will hang at the Blanchard Community Library on the Douglas Shively Memorial Wall starting October 3. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, October 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. where Klement will sign limited edition prints of “Faulkner Farm” and other works of art. Light refreshments will be served at the reception; the library is located at 119 N. 8th St.“Judy will hang a mixture,” of art, said Virginia Gunderson, President of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, of which Klement is a member. “She most recently closed out a show at the Camarillo Art Center,” titled “Images in Pastel.”Gunderson noted that Klement’s “Interests are as varied as her mediums in that she does portraits, custom art and landscapes,” hanging here and abroad. “Judith’s painting of Faulkner Farm is one that serious collectors should come by and see,” added Gunderson.A native of New Jersey, Klement studied with various fine artists, including Joe Hing Lowe, Richard Botto, Anthony J. Manzo and life drawing in New York and Los Angeles.Klement taught art to children and adults for nine years and sponsored numerous exhibits and auctions. The former Judith Aymar was a COGAP artist whose work appears in the permanent collection of the United States Coast Guard.
Also a member of the Camarillo Art Center and Ventura County Pastel Artists, Klement has won numerous awards.Married to Walt Klement in January 1999, Judith moved the “charming town of Santa Paula,” an artists’ delight: she found a feast for the eyes in Faulkner Farm, the 100-year-old First Christian Church (where she sang during the Centennial Worship Service on October 1), and “scenes and sunsets vibrant with colors,” she noted. Her painting, “Cruise Night Classics” is a grand example of her love of Santa Paula’s unique activities and Klement’s appreciation of same.Exhibited in the California Oil Museum (where “Cruise Night Classics” and “Faulkner Farm” were among the favorites of a recent SPSA show), Los Angeles Art Expo, shown and sold in galleries in Los Angeles, Encino, Calabasas, Ojai, New York, New Jersey and Italy, Klement’s work has been exhibited in National Arts of New York, Chase Manhattan Bank, Newark Museum, Bergen County Museum and Wycoff Wildlife Center along with many one-woman showings in the New York metropolitan area. Her murals can be viewed at Church of the Canyons in Calabasas.
