By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesYou’ll have a great time while “Harvesting our Heritage for a New Crop of Kids” at Saturday’s Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley dinner auction at historic Teague-McKevett Ranch. “It’s not exactly a barn dance,” but Club Marketing/Promotions Director Barbara Kroon said the venue, including the ranch’s vintage barn, will add Western ambiance to the evening that begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 each. The décor, she noted, will be “more like ‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?’ with a blue grass trio playing during the silent auction and cocktail hour,” leading up to the “upscale barbeque” provided by Epicure Catering. Limoneira Company is decorating their ranch property with vintage farming vehicles and equipment, and Kroon said to “Picture hay bales, pumpkins, that kind of feel,” for a relaxed evening of fun.And ladies, leave those high-heels home. “Since it’s an outdoor event at a working ranch, you might want to wear your boots... Western gear is encouraged.”Popular DJ Buddy Love will be spinning classic country Western music during dinner, followed by the live auction that Kroon said the club is “really, really proud of.... We have great items” that, like the silent auction, will offer items suitable for all pocketbooks. Kroon noted the silent auction has dozens of unique gifts and fun things to do, and the 28 live auction items will keep bidders at the ready.
Jewels Eubanks of California Auctioneers is overseeing the auction, and “He was impressed with our list... a good sign.” It’s easy to see why: the live auction will offer everything from a Tahoe vacation to two beach house packages, a yard makeover, official NFL signed football and cap for those Dallas Cowboy fans to a day cruise on a private yacht and Santa Cruz Island picnic. Girls Night Out will stage a Santa Paula Firehouse Dinner, dinner for 10 at the Teague Mansion by Jason Collins of Jonathan’s, UCLA v. Washington State Rose Bowl tickets and “perks,” and a Santa Paula Package that includes a stay at the Glen Tavern Penthouse Suite, dinner for two at Ironhorse, Limoneira Jeep excursion and breakfast at Logsdon’s.There will also be jewelry, a 100-spot media package from Gold Coast Broadcasting, wine tasting for 20 at the Teague Mansion, wine and dinner for 20 at Ironhorse and much, much more. The best part of the silent and live auctions is the end benefit, various club programs that Kroon said “help our kids grow to become productive, responsible, healthy and happy citizens who contribute to society, as so many of our club’s success stories have shown.”Parking for the dinner auction will be just east of the Limoneira Mercantile (turn right at the end of East Telegraph Road just past Hallock), and guests will be transported to the party in the vintage Limoneira trolley. “The trolley will bring people onto the ranch,” noted Kroon. “It’s a fun way to get started.”For more information or to reserve tickets, call “The Positive Place for Kids” at 525-7910.
