The Jim Colborn Baseball Field project at Santa Paula High School is moving ahead, as donations continue to come in.
The district board approved naming the field after the former major league player and SPHS graduate last year. The Jim Colborn Field Committee working on the project is hoping to have a special ceremony at the start of the 2009 high school baseball season this spring. The committee hopes to have a plaque mounted on the cement bleachers and a scoreboard with JIM COLBORN FIELD installed in right field. They are about halfway in their fund-raising drive. “Contributions from the entire community are welcome, not just from the original “Yes” voters,” said Kay Davison-Culpepper. People can contribute in two ways. You can make a monetary contribution or volunteer your time, labor or materials. Monetary contributions should be made out to D. Kay Culpepper and sent to 8870 Boxelder Drive, Colorado Springs, CO, 80920-5730.Questions can be directed to Steve Brown at 701-4616 or email at culpdk@yahoo.com.
