Show you care by volunteering

Santa Paula News

You’ll find your passion and help your community by taking part in the September 25 United Way of Ventura County Day of Caring volunteer projects, and there are two that will occur right here in Santa Paula at the Boys & Girls Club and Joshua’s House.

Projects help those in need, and volunteers gather with hundreds of other like-minded individuals at worksites all across Ventura County.

United Way has 30 projects to choose from - all in one day - offering something for everyone! United Way even is offering service projects for children as young as 5 years old to set them off on a life of giving and helping others. Volunteers will receive LIVE UNITED T-shirts, water and, if the project requires them, work gloves.

The Boys & Girls Clubs Of Santa Clara Valley will stage its annual Santa Paula Site Kids Day, where volunteers will help for four hours supervising the set-up, operation and breakdown of booths for the club’s National Day for Kids Open House. The booths will have kid-friendly games and prizes, and the hot dog/soda window is in the Club’s own kitchen.

The only possible limitation for volunteers would be that booth operation could require standing and bending off and on for the three hours the booth is open, and limited lifting and carrying involved in set-up and breakdown.

Lunch will be provided for volunteers, who are invited to bring their own children to enjoy the event. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse, 1400 E. Harvard Blvd. For more information contact Carole Power, director of resource development, at 525-7910.

Services United, Inc. is asking those who want to volunteer for the Day of Caring to consider helping to paint The Joshua House, 404 E. Main Street. The project will have two different shifts, in the morning shift and the afternoon.

The morning shift will be setting up, putting up tape, covering windows, sanding the railing, laying down plastic tarps and starting painting. The afternoon shift will be painting the house and railing and cleaning up after the job is done. Volunteers with prior painting experience are especially welcome!

Services United Inc. provides a multifaceted program with an emphasis on assisting individuals and families dealing with drug and alcohol problems by offering professional psychotherapy, drug and alcohol addiction counseling, prevention/intervention programs, a residential treatment center and related social services. Services United is bilingual, bicultural, Latino sensitive, and serves the community of Santa Paula and surrounding areas.
