What was first reported as a major traffic accident last week that drew 10 units from various Ventura County fire departments was found to be an incident involving a recreational vehicle that had left the roadway, tipped over and caused minor injury to its two vacationing passengers.

According to Officer Steve Reid of the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported Thursday, January 13 at 1:50 p.m. on Highway 126 west of Toland Road. When emergency responders - including Santa Paula Fire and Police personnel - arrived on scene they found a 2003 24-foot-long Fleetwood motorhome tipped over into a concrete drainage ditch.

Reid said Robert Bagdad, age 73 of Granada Hills, was driving the Fleetwood motorhome westbound on Highway 126 near Toland Road. Bagdad and his wife, Francis Bagdad, age 70, also of Granada Hills, said Reid, “were on their way to Steckel Park.”

As Bagdad was traveling westbound on Highway 126, for an unknown reason the motorhome veered to right and ran off the roadway. The motorhome struck a guardrail and several wooden posts before coming to rest in a concrete drainage ditch.

Reid said Bagdad and his wife sustained minor injuries, and the couple was treated  on scene before they were transported by ambulance to Santa Paula Hospital. Sixty-six feet of guardrail, noted Reid, was damaged in the collision.
