Frosh & JV boys win, varsity loses to Carpinteria

Santa Paula defeated the Carpinteria frosh boys’ basketball team 48 to 42 Wednesday.
Leading the frosh team were: Alex Rios 10, Isaiah Lara 9, Jesus Nava 8, Justin Obios 7, Jacob Leon 4, Joseph Garcia 4, Joey Llamas 4 and Martin Rojas 2. Their season record is now 4 - 7. The league record is 2 -0.
Santa Paula tripped the Carpinteria JV 52 to 46.
The Cardinals started out slowly and trailed Carpinteria by 7 points at the end of the 1st quarter. The Cardinals played better defense in the 2nd quarter and trailed the Warriors by 2 points at halftime by a score of 22 - 20. Santa Paula outscored Carpinteria in the second half by a score of 32 to 24 to beat Carpinteria by eight points. The highlights for the Cardinals were Daniel Perez 14, Nicholas Aguilera 12, Irwin Vargas 10, Isaac Ramirez 7, Christian Garcia 6 (before fouling out of the game with 2:15 left in the final quarter), and Oscar Cancino 3. The Cardinal JV season record is 10 - 2. Their League record is 2 - 0.
The Carpinteria varsity defeated Santa Paula in a lackluster contest by a score of 65 to 54.
The Warriors were ahead throughout the game and outscored the Cardinals in every quarter except the 3rd in which both teams scored 16 points a piece. Leading the scoring for the Cardinals were Eduardo Chavez 13, Joshua Garay 9, Gabriel Diaz 8, Brandon Casas 8, Tim Garcia 8, Miguel Villa 3, Eddie Perez 3, Sunny Jackson 2. Santa Paula has an overall record of 7 - 8 and a league record of 0 -2.
The Cardinals will be traveling to Bishop Diego this evening with the Frosh game starting at 4:00 p.m.
