If the voters approve the new unified district, the new school district would begin operations on July 1, 2013.
The filing period for the November election opened Monday and, besides the various school district board elections, local voters will vote for members of the proposed new Santa Paula Unified School District.
Those interested in serving on the unified board have until August 10 to pick up and return nomination papers for the five-member board.
The top three vote earners would serve a four-year term and the remaining two would serve a two-year term to stagger the elections. The voting area would be the Santa Paula Union High School District, which encompasses the Santa Paula Elementary School District and the three smaller independent school districts, since their students matriculate to the high school.
If the voters approve the new unified district, the new school district would begin operations on July 1, 2013.
