A memorial display of beautiful art is paying tribute to the artists whose works live on: the paintings of Martha Binsley, Cynthia Davis and Dorine Lunceford are the focus of a very special exhibit at Blanchard Community Library through May 31.

All three of the highly admired artists were members of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, which is staging the exhibit on the Douglas Shively Memorial Wall at the library, located at 119 N. 8th Street. “Our group has lost these three members in the last six months and we have a memorial display for Martha, Cynthia and Dorine,” said Virginia Gunderson of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts.

Each of the women - Binsley and Davis had lived in Santa Paula and Lunceford had recently moved to Tehachapi - specialized in watercolor. But, noted Gunderson, “Each of them had their own particular style... they will be missed” as artists as well as friends. The display also includes a brief biography of each artist.

Binsley, Davis and Lunceford were well known watercolorists. Each had impressive art resumes, had won various prizes, and was widely exhibited, with their talents recognized with various awards.

The memorial display of Binsley’s, Davis’ and Lunceford’s artworks can be viewed during regular library hours: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Paintings by Binsley, Davis and Lunceford have also been displayed at the Depot Gallery, and smaller works at the SPSA Depot Gift Shop, both located 963 E. Santa Barbara St. (at the corner of 10th and Santa Barbara streets). The SPSA Gallery and Gift Shop are open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment for tours.

The SPSA Gallery extends into the restored Depot warehouse, a portion of which is used for one-person shows and a continually rotating exhibit of paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels as well as collages, photography, digital art and arts and crafts.

The SPSA Gift Shop offers those items as well as hand painted boxes, small paintings, greeting cards, magnets, fabric art, local and railroad theme cards and other items all created by society members.
