Santa Paula Police arrested an area man Wednesday after two shooting incidents led them to search his home where drugs were allegedly discovered.

According to Detective Randy Haumann patrol personnel assisted investigators with serving the warrant June 11 at about 9 a.m. in the 200 block of Warren Avenue, the residence of 26-year-old Johnny Ramirez.

“The search warrant was obtained due to an on-going investigation regarding a shooting that occurred on May 27,” in the 400 block of North 13th Street.

Haumann said at about 11:45 a.m. police, “Received a report that shots were exchanged between two subjects,” in an “older GMC raised pickup and a white compact sedan,” that fled the scene after the shooting.

“We investigated it and no one appeared to be injured and,” said Haumann, “we did not locate any subjects,” although Ramirez was later identified as being involved.

On June 9 at about 10:45 a.m. SPPD Detectives responded to Ventura County Medical Center where hospital personnel had reported a victim of a non-life threatening gunshot wound was being treated.

“The victim,” said Haumann, “turned out to be Ramirez,” who had been transported to the hospital by a family member.

Ramirez, said Haumann, “Had not reported the incident to Santa Paula Police,” and other than claiming that he received the gunshot wound in the 400 block of North 13th Street, “He was uncooperative with the investigation.”

Santa Paula Police Detectives were able to secure a search warrant for Ramirez, his residence and vehicles for “Basically, evidence of the crime,” the May 27 shooting incident.

“While looking for evidence we found all the dope,” 11 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 2.5 ounces of marijuana that was seized from Ramirez’ bedroom at the residence, “and the cash... “

Haumann said $1,405 was seized as “suspected profits from narcotics sales,” conducted by Ramirez who is currently out on bail on drug charges.

Haumann said, “It is believed that the gunshot wound to Ramirez’s leg was self-inflicted resulting from negligent discharge of a gun... he was treated and released from the hospital on that.”

Ramirez, according to Haumann a documented gang member, is also currently on probation for narcotic violations.

He was booked at Santa Paula Police Station for various suspected drug charges and later taken to Ventura County Jail.

Haumann said Ramirez remains a suspect in the May 27 shooting incident, which is still being investigated.
