“A work of art from our hearts to yours” could aptly describe the latest of Santa Paula’s murals, titled “Celebrating Santa Paula’s Latino Culture.” The mural will be dedicated on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at the mural site on the corner of 10th and Main Streets, just behind La Terraza Restaurant. Music for the dedication will be provided by the talented Moraza brothers, dancers Danzantes Aztecas Tonantzin will perform, and a blessing of the mural will be given by Father Charles of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Artist Eloy Torrez will be on hand to share his experiences and insights on how the mural evolved. The Murals Committee has arranged for Adan Sandoval, owner of La Terraza Restaurant, to offer samples of his restaurant’s cuisine for refreshments. They are grateful to him for his patience in allowing the artist to “occupy” his parking lot for the three months while the mural was being completed. Their gratitude also goes to Jose Barcelona, owner of the Gonzales Furniture building, for the use of his building and his enthusiastic support.Rather than use the archives of the Santa Paula Historical Society, as has been the usual practice for each mural, the committee wanted this mural to express “the feelings and hopes of the present Santa Paula Latino community. By seeking out their views on how they wanted their ‘story’ portrayed, we hope we have achieved a beautiful depiction of the warm and vital Latino culture of Santa Paula.”
