On Wednesday, February 2nd the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Guild will hold the installation of officers for the new year. Those elected are: Sandy Reinke, president; Sandra Perello, vice president and also in charge of programs; Pam Lindsay, treasurer; Dee Angus, secretary; Michelle Smith, Ways and Means chairman; Sharon Clark, Refreshment chairman; and Helena Keefe, club historian. The Santa Clara Valley Quilt Guild is a group of dedicated women who come not only from Santa Paula, but also the surrounding cities of Fillmore, Ojai, Ventura, Oxnard and Camarillo. They meet at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month; at the present time meeting in the large sewing room at the Fabric Depot, courtesy of owner Cynthia Davis. When the group first started, meetings were presided over by Dorothy Wood of Ventura. The Santa Clara Valley Quilt Guild not only makes quilts for members’ families and friends, but they also serve their communities in other ways. Many of the members have made quilts for rest homes, preschools, and also adult and children’s quilts for organizations like the Hospice Home Support Group.Members were happy to take part in the recent Heritage Day celebration, showing new and old quilts in both Santa Paula and Fillmore. They have had many entries in the Ventura County Fair, and a four-month showing at the California Oil Museum in Santa Paula.
Guest speakers are regularly brought in to give members new ideas on making different types of quilts, and how to judge the age of old family quilts.Anyone interested is welcome to visit or join the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Guild on the first Wednesday of each month at Fabric Depot, 866 E. Main St. in Santa Paula.
