Two SP men arrested on suspicion of auto burglary, grand theft

Two Santa Paulans were arrested early Tuesday morning following a short foot pursuit after they were found to be in possession of items taken from cars parked at a Ventura apartment complex, according to a Ventura Police Department spokesman.

A third suspect is still being sought.The Santa Paula residents, Benjamin B. Mendoza, 26, and Robert P. Loza, 25, were arrested at the Cypress Point Apartments in the 1100 block of Cypress Point Lane at about 4:45 a.m. on March 29. Police said that a resident living in the complex called 911 to report that two men were walking through carports trying to open the doors of parked vehicles.
Upon officers arrival, Mendoza and Loza ran from the parking lot toward a truck that was parked outside the complex. The two men threw some items into the bed of the parked truck and then tried to get in, but officers stopped the suspects before they could drive away.The third suspect was able to get out of the truck and run away.Mendoza and Loza were transported to Ventura County Jail and booked on charges of attempted auto burglary and grand theft, according to the VPD spokesman.
