Re:  William Splanger’s December 6 VC Star Letter “Can’t Pick and Choose Laws”

To the Editor:

Mr. Spangler is highly critical of Santa Paula Police Chief Steve McLean for not actively enforcing federal immigration law but fails to recognize that all officials must assign some degree of priority to daily tasks.

Chief McLean has earned the respect of Santa Paulans by assigning priority to keeping all residents safe, and we support him.  But if we develop a need to harass peaceful immigrants we can always call upon Mr. Spangler of Westlake Village.

To the Editor:

The Santa Paula Veterans of Foreign Wars Mercer-Prieto Post 2043 enjoyed their annual Christmas Dinner on Thursday December 15, 2016. The dinner was held at the St Paul’s Lutheran and Episcopal Church hall. Sincere thanks to Father Michael Fincher for all his support.

We would like to thank all our Post members who were able to attend, their Wives and Families, and their guests, for all their support. They all help to make each year very special with their presence, the excellent food and desert dishes they all provide to make this a very special Christmas Dinner. The main meal for the dinner of two turkeys and one large ham are donated by Post members, and prepared by them. The highlight to our VFW Post 2043 Christmas Dinner is a no cost raffle for our Post members and family. This ‘no cost raffle’ is supported each year by the generous donations and support from many of our local merchants. We would like to acknowledge their support; Santa Paula Chevrolet, Frank’s Paint & Hardware, Seeber’s Pharmacy, Garmans Irish Pub, El Pescador, La Cabana, Familia Diaz restaurants and Highway 126 Cafe for their generous donations.  A special donation was also provided to the Post 2043 by Trader Joe’s of Ventura.  This year we really went big with a big screen TV donated by Post Member Joe Reyes and his Wife Celia.

We also would like to acknowledge all the support we receive throughout the year from the community: Yamaguchi’s Flowers; Crane Printing and the Santa Paula Times.

Thank you, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Sincerely

Gerald V. Olivas

Commander VFW Post 2043

Thank you

Santa Paula!

To the Editor:

Once again Santa Paula Rotary, with the help of numerous volunteers, has delivered Christmas baskets to 453 families who needed a little help, including over 1300 children.  Each basket was piled high and each family received 25 cans of food, a variety of fresh produce, rice, beans, potatoes, a chicken, and toys for every child in the family!  It required three volunteers to deliver each box.

This occurred because of Santa Paulans’ GENEROUS donations.  We had 48 drop-off boxes to collect toys and canned goods.  They were placed throughout the community, and people generously filled the boxes with toys and canned goods.  Food drives were put on by Santa Paula FFA, Briggs 4-H, and others.  The Marines “Toys for Tots Program” also pitched in to fulfill our toy needs.  Our whole community came together to help those families that needed help to make this Christmas special.

It couldn’t have been done without your donations and all of those volunteers who helped out.

Thank you Santa Paula!
